Outdoor Learning on Site
At Haworth Primary, outdoor learning is a vital and exciting part of our curriculum. Nestled in the beautiful forest behind the school, our dedicated outdoor area offers a rich, natural environment where children explore, discover, and thrive.
Each half term, throughout the year, all pupils take part in Outdoor Learning sessions, engaging in hands-on experiences that develop confidence, teamwork, and a love of nature. From building shelters and cooking over open fires to swinging from rope swings and getting creative in our mud kitchens, children learn through play, adventure, and meaningful outdoor challenges.
We believe the outdoors is not just a place to play—it's a powerful classroom without walls.
Experiences of a Lifetime
At Haworth Primary, we believe in giving children the chance to step outside their comfort zones, challenge themselves, and experience the thrill of the great outdoors. Our outdoor activity residentials, both in Year 3/4 and Year 5/6, are a highlight of school life—an unforgettable opportunity for pupils to grow in confidence, independence, and resilience.
These trips take our children into stunning natural environments where they take part in a wide range of adventurous activities. Pupils scale rock faces through rock climbing, experience the rush of abseiling, and trek through rugged landscapes on challenging hikes. They discover the power of teamwork and determination as they take on a range of outdoor activities, navigating rivers and developing essential survival skills by building fires and shelters in the wild.
More than just physical challenges, these adventures promote personal growth, encourage problem-solving, and help children learn to support one another. Surrounded by nature, away from screens and routines, they find new strengths in themselves—and leave with new friends, strengthened bonds and memories that last a lifetime.
Our trips are not just about adventure—they're about discovering what’s possible when you dare to try.
