Community Engagement at Haworth Primary School

Litter picking in the park

At Haworth Primary School, we are proud to be part of a close-knit, welcoming village with a rich historical heritage. We value our place within the community and actively seek opportunities to strengthen the strong links between the school and our local area.

Throughout the year, we engage with the community in a variety of meaningful ways, including:

  • Participating in the annual Remembrance procession and service at the local cenotaph

  • Attending Christmas and Easter services at St Michael & All Angels Church

  • Welcoming local faith leaders into school to lead weekly assemblies

  • Taking part in community clean-up initiatives such as litter picking in Haworth Park and on Main Street

  • Performing regularly, with our school choir visiting Lindisfarne Care Home throughout the year and Airedale Hospital during the festive season

  • Hosting the Haworth Brass Band to perform alongside our choir at Christmas events

  • Supporting and participating in the annual Santa Fun Run

  • Collaborating with local businesses through curriculum-linked projects

  • Offering our school grounds for local events such as the Yorkshireman and the Haworth Hobble

Bringing the Community into the Curriculum

At Haworth Primary School, we are committed to embedding our local community and heritage into the heart of our curriculum, from Early Years through to Year 6. We believe that real-life experiences enrich learning and help bring the world around us to life for our pupils.

Our curriculum includes a wide range of locally focused activities such as:

  • Riding the iconic Keighley & Worth Valley steam train

  • Exploring Haworth Main Street

  • Investigating the historical development of local housing and mills

  • Visiting the Brontë Parsonage Museum to deepen understanding of our literary heritage

These experiences provide valuable context and make learning more meaningful by enabling children to connect what they learn in the classroom with the world around them.

If you see us out and about in our bright blue school jumpers, please do stop and say hello — we love being a visible part of village life!

We are always keen to strengthen our links with the community and welcome suggestions for further collaboration. If you have any ideas or opportunities to share, please contact the school office at:
